David R. Coolidge
As first mate of the Lady, Coolidge was an animated and well-seasoned sailor. No complaints were ever heard about him, wheras the mates of Columbia were constantly being thrown off the ship or replaced due to contentions with the captain. Coolidge seemed to get along quite well with both Kendrick and Gray, an amazing feat. In 1792, Coolidge took command of the brig Grace and went into the Northwest trade for himself, but while he was on Washington he was well liked by crew and other officers alike. Nothing is known of his early years but he was a successful merchant captain for the rest of his life.
